Hackensack High School recently renovated an old Wall Unit and redesigned it to
remember and pay tribute to Hackensack High School
Veterans. This Wall Unit currently recognizes
approximately 1,200 men and women who served our
country and attended Hackensack High School.

Hackensack High School was founded in 1896 and while most of
the veterans featured on the Wall Unit served in
WWII, veterans of the Spanish American War, WWI,
WWII, the Korean War, Vietnam War, Afghanistan War,
the First Iraq War, the Second Iraq War and any
service in between are eligible.
The Wall Unit is designed to remember not only the
names of veterans but to also provide a venue for
the veterans to tell their stories or have their
stories written as they would have
wanted them to be told.
To the left of the Wall Unit is a section dedicated
to Comet Solder Stories, which
features information about a soldier’s experience
during his or her military service. The honored
veteran’s name is highlighted with a blue border.

Every few weeks a number of Comet Soldier
Stories are placed on display within the
Wall Unit for students, staff and Hackensack
community to remember, study and honor. The
information provided might also be used by the
History Department of Hackensack High School as well
as other schools in the surrounding areas that may
be interested.
If you or a family member attended Hackensack High
School and are a veteran, please submit your story
to Robert Meli (address listed below). Copies of
dispatch papers, pictures, medal information,
personal letters, memoirs, etc. would be greatly
appreciated and further add to the history that this
wall is set out to preserve.
Once all the spaces on the Wall Unit are complete,
additional names will be recorded in a book attached
to the Wall Unit. All your information will be on
file for use and display.
Send all information to:
